Just Wanna Share Some IT Knowledge

Currently, I am a Senior Network Systems Engineer who is responsible for a Compuware and NMS (Network Monitoring Systems) Services unit with a local IT company. I have several years of experience in networking especially on LAN (Local Area Networking). Before that I was directly involved in few IT mega projects which are JPJ (Road Transport Department) Computerization and JIM (Immigration Department). Yes, if you renew your driver's license at the JPJ branches or the post office, I was part of that. When you want to apply or renew a passport or use the automatic gate at KLIA when going and comeback from overseas, yes I was part of that too. Alhamdulillah, I am very grateful to Allah for given me the opportunity to help my country in that capacity and use my knowledge and experience learnt while studying overseas at UTEP and being a JPA scholar.

Enough about that. Here I just wanna share some IT knowledge that some of you may not know about.

First, do you know that when you are online your PC or notebook will be assigned a public IP address? Do you know what that IP address assigned to you? If you want to know, go to this site. In fact, there are so many websites like GeoBytes IP Locator , http://www.ip-adress.com/ , or http://www.lawrencegoetz.com/programs/ipinfo/ that offer the service to identify your IP while online.

Secondly, actually what is an IP address?

An Internet Protocol (IPaddress is a numerical identification and logical address that is assigned to devices participating in a computer network utilizing the Internet Protocol for communication between its nodes.[1]Although IP addresses are stored as binary numbers, they are usually displayed in human-readable notations, such as 208.77.188.166 (for IPv4), and 2001:db8:0:1234:0:567:1:1 (for IPv6). The role of the IP address has been characterized as follows: "A name indicates what we seek. An address indicates where it is. A route indicates how to get there."[2

OR ... in other words,
In the most widely installed level of the Internet Protocol (IP) today, an IP address is a 32-bit number that identifies each sender or receiver of information that is sent in packets across the Internet.

Actually, the information as at your fingertip nowadays. One of the important aspect of getting info from the net is you need to know how to "googling" - a term used to do a search using google.

I think it is enough for today. Learn it step by step. It is very important to know this sort of stuff because it involves your online activity.

Hopefully, the above is benefitial to all of you.
